WASHITA THEATRE UPDATE
If you’ve been downtown lately you can see that the historic Washita Theater is starting to come back to life. Lately, the progress of the front façade restoration has slowed due to the very wet spring and summer we have had. Hopefully we will be able to complete the rest of the work this fall. Due to the specialized nature of the neon lights on the tower we are having to consult different companies who are experts in that field. We should be able to have that part of the project completed before the end of the year.
In the meantime, we have added Amy Haskins to our crew as a grant writer to help us complete our fundraising for the remainder of the project. We are very happy to have her on the project with us. We are also still selling squares for the sidewalk in the front of the theater. This is a great way for the community to be involved with the project and to also be a part of history. The squares will be very visible, not only because of the location but also due to their size. We are selling 2 ft X 2 ft squares and also 16 inch X 16 inch squares. For your convenience, you can split your donation up into 4 payments. Please consider buying a square to support this very worthwhile project. For more information on the sidewalk squares or to volunteer to help with this project call 405-224-3652 or write us at PO Box 1687 Chickasha, OK 73023. Thank you for your support.
CCT TO HOLD AUDITIONS FOR "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE"
Chickasha Community Theatre will hold auditions for the upcoming Christmas play, "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE", on Monday and Tuesday September 24 and 25 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Chickasha Public Library. There are roles for six children and approximately 20 adults. Most of the roles are minor with only a few lines to memorize, but as they say, “there are no small roles, just small actors”; all of the parts are very important. "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" is the delightful and heart-warming story of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure are repeatedly quashed by family obligation and civic duty. Performances will be November 30, December 1 and 2 at the new Chickasha High School activity center.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
On August 12, CCT held the annual membership meeting at
Eduardo’s. We discussed the current assets and updates on the renovation of the
Washita Theater, as well as recent activity on grant applications.
Four new members were elected to the Board of Directors. Former board members
Thome Cook and Henry Heine will be returning, along with new board members Jeff
Periman and Judy Carroll. They will officially join the Board of Directors
January of 2008.
The season for 2008 was also proposed to the members. We will open our season
with a dessert theatre called Murder, You Must Be Kidding! by Pat Cook.
CCT and Chickasha High School will be following in May with our annual joint
production. This year’s show will be the melodrama, The Dastardly Dr.
Devereaux. In the summer, we plan to produce Annie and end the season
with Little Women for Christmas.
